Discovering in the first term that your course is not what you thought is one of the most common experiences in higher education, and one of the least discussed. Changing is often possible and the cost rises sharply the longer you wait.

Knowing a formula and knowing when to reach for it are two different pieces of knowledge, and exams test the second. Almost all wasted formula revision drills the first and never practises the second.
A detailed letter from a teacher who taught you beats a vague one from someone impressive who barely knows you. The difference is mostly decided by how you ask, and by what you send them unprompted.
The payment is the easy half. The receipt is the whole game. A transfer that arrives correctly is worth nothing if the bursary cannot match it to your name, and that gap causes every serious problem here.
The goal is not to feel nothing. Candidates who feel nothing tend to underperform. The goal is keeping anxiety at the level where it helps, which is a smaller and far more achievable target than being calm.
Everything else in your application is a number. This is the only part where a person decides something about you. The most common failure is not bad writing, it is writing something any other applicant could have written.
