The Lower House of the German Parliament, the Bundestag, authorized this Friday a law that will facilitate the change of title and gender id in official paperwork. This resolution has been promoted by the events of the Government coalition and celebrated by the LGTBI collective.
The present law, from 1980, establishes that transsexual, intersex or non-binary individuals require psychiatric reviews and permission from a decide to alter their title in the registry. From November, a purely administrative process will suffice.
The measure has gone forward with 374 votes in favor and 251 in opposition to, amongst them these of the conservative bloc led by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).
